Ann Holden
Ann qualified from Cambridge Vet School in 1980 and worked in general practice in the north west of England for the next 20 years, running her own small animal surgery for some of this time. In 2000, Ann left practice and began to spend more time on art. She enjoyed painting with watercolour but found it frustrating: a friend suggested that she might find it interesting to try coloured pencils. Since 2003, Ann has had work (mainly coloured pencil but also watercolour and acrylics) exhibited in the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art, the UKCPS annual exhibition and several local exhibitions on the Wirral. She also produces sympathy cards for her old veterinary surgery.
In 2008, she was commissioned by the Royal Veterinary College to paint a portrait of Professor Leslie
Vaughan DSc DVR FRCVS, an eminent academic and long-serving member of the veterinary profession. (Sadly,
Professor Vaughan died a few days before the unveiling of the portrait, though not before he had seen and
approved his likeness.)
Ann has been a member of the UKCPS since 2004 and is currently Editor of Talking Point, the society’s newsletter. She has recently become a member of the AAA and looks forward to becoming involved in the association’s activities.
She is happy to discuss commissions for animal and people portraits in graphite or coloured pencil.
