David C Lyons
I was born in Barrowford and have lived in Lancashire all my life. It was my early involvement in school projects - painting scenery for school plays and such - that enthused me into wanting to pursue a career in art. However, I was a full time teacher for a while and then my career moved into graphics in 1972 and commercial art was the mainstay of my work though I continued to teach adult education at Nelson and Colne College and Blackburn College. I’m now a full time artist working from my studio near Barley at the foot of Pendle Hill.
Subject matter varies but I am known mainly for my paintings of rural machinery (mainly tractors), old vehicles, animals (especially cattle in a ‘local’ landscape) and more recently for wild life.
My style is to show the subject in a realistic way and add softer, even semi abstract backgrounds on a highly textured multi-coloured surface.
Awards include
Professional Artist of the Year and Best Landscape of the Year, both in 2004 with the Society for All Artist (SAA)
The British Society of Painters Exhibitions, First Prize Winner twice, Runner Up several times. Was made a Fellow of the British Society of Painters (FBSP)
I have won prestigious prizes every year with exhibitions arranged by The Artist Magazine (Patchings)
and also exhibited at The National Exhibition of Wildlife Art and Manchester Academy of Fine Art.
I have been published in "International Artist", "The Artist", "Lancashire Life", "Lancashire Magazine" and “How did you paint that?” (where 100 artists explain their techniques - USA publication)
