Glancing Back - Snow Leopard by Lesley Howarth Lesley was born and raised in Manchester in the North West of England, brought up around a variety of animals and being encouraged to draw from an early age. Lesley started taking commissions for paintings while studying at college and through university while studying for a B.A(hons) in Graphic Design commissions from fellow students helped pay the tuition fees.

After graduating from university working part-time as a lecturer and later with Greater Manchester Police meant she could carry on painting part-time. After completing an MSc at Salford University and with the support of her husband Chris she left the police to make the transition to full time animal artist over a year ago.

Her work has since been exhibited and sold at a number of annual exhibitions including National Exhibition of Wildlife Art, MIWAS and TWASI.

Lesley is concerned about the environment and the need to protect the habitats of animals as well as the animals themselves to ensure their future survival in the wild. In her studio she ensures that energy saving lighting is used, paper is recycled and recycled paper utilised where suitable and an environmentally friendly substitute to turps/ white spirit is also used. Charity work is important; her work has been the focus of an exhibition to support a North West branch of the RSPCA.

Siberian Husky 'Yanya' by Lesley Howarth Currently residing in Manchester she travels up and down the UK to gather reference material in addition to travels abroad with cameras and sketchbooks in tow.

Working in both pastels and oils Lesley welcomes commissions; there are occasionally originals in addition to both fine art and photographic prints for sale on her website.
