Dr. Susan E. Poole PhD (Archaeology) MA (Fine Art) ASGFA

Animals provide a continual source of inspiration for Susan’s work. In addition to spending much time with her own horses, dogs and cats, she has travelled widely in Africa, North and South America, China, New Zealand and Europe in order to make first hand studies of wild animals and bird life.
Born in London, Susan was educated at University College London, Surrey Institute of Art and Design and Goldsmiths College, University of London. She has an MA in Fine Art and her paintings and drawings have been exhibited in many national group exhibitions since the 1980's, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, the Society of Wildlife Artists, the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers (where she received both the Margaret Ryder Award and a Gold Bowl Honourable Mention), the Society of Equestrian Artists, the Pastel and Pencil Society and the Society of Graphite Fine Art (ASGFA). She is a member of the Association of Animal Artists and her work is held in private collections in both the UK and abroad.

In 2000 she took a break of some years from producing her own artwork to analyse the art of prehistoric Greece (for which she awarded a PhD by University College London). Now based in Devon she has returned to working on her fine art animal studies. In 2008 she was published in the Artist magazine and the Leisure Painter, and in 2009 she was selected as finalist in the International Wildlife Artist of the Year competition.
Some of her drawings and paintings are available as Limited edition prints (runs of 100).
Commissions are occasionally accepted.
